ahas Dambulla is a product of the COVID-19 pandemic. Started in 2019, the ahas Dambulla villa first opened its doors to the public on January 1st, 2020. We welcomed the New Year with our first guests who, which was the start of a steady influx of visitors.

Unfortunately, after three months of successful operations we were forced to halt operations due to the outbreak, and subsequent lockdowns, of COVID-19. With uncertainty looming over the tourism industry, we decided to turn our efforts once again to our organic farm which is situated right on the property.

ahas Dambulla has a proud history when it comes to agriculture. Having first established a farm on the property in 2003, we were the first farmers to successfully grow cauliflower in Dambulla. This soon caught on and by the next year cauliflower crops were appearing all over the region.

We continued our farming journey, exploring crops such as onions, carrots and other household vegetables. However, our most exciting expansion was the introduction of cinnamon in 2016. A crop that is traditionally grown in the cooler climate of Matale or the Southern Province, we decided to go back to our family roots and explored the introduction of cinnamon.

We are happy to announce that several crops later, we are now producing C5 Special grade cinnamon!

Of course, what ahas Dambulla is most famous for is our variations of tomato chutney. This specialty is made from our family recipe, handed down three generations. Made from our very own organic tomatoes, the ahas Dambulla chutney range was introduced in 2020 to help ensure we did not lose our tomato crops due to the lockdowns and inability to deliver our fresh produce.

In keeping with the rising demand for our tomato chutney, we have introduced two variations to the styles. These are “tomato and kochchi chutney” and our newly introduced “tomato and nai-miris chutney”.

Along with our vegetables and spices, ahas Dambulla is also striving to re-introduce the indigenous varieties of rice which were once abundant in Sri Lanka. Every year, during the Maha Season, we introduce a new variety of rice which are hopeful that the local farmers will be encouraged to grow as well.

At ahas Dambulla we are not only committed to sustainable farming methods but are also environmentally conscious. This has grown through our very “Homegrown & Pesticide Free” method of farming. With no added chemicals, we are ensuring that our customers are given the healthy and most original food products that are available in the market.

As we now prepare to re-enter the tourism market, ahas Dambulla is a focusing on a new intimate style of tourism. Our doors are open to all those who wish to come and enjoy the ahas Dambulla farm up close and personal.
